Levy Cheebwa

Local boy made good Levy Cheebwa has a great story to tell about how he became a guide for Chongwe Safaris. He started working at Chongwe River Camp in 2002 as a gardener but soon decided that he wanted to learn how to guide. In his spare time he read every book he could lay his hands on and soon convinced Chongwe owner Chris Liebenberg to enrol him in formal guide’s training and passed his guide’s exams in 2004, achieving a No 1 position in his class beating older and much more experienced guides in the process.

Levy has worked with the company ever since and loves driving and walking with guests through the Lower Zambezi’s breathtaking bush. “I love meeting people and sharing what I have learned with them,” he says, adding that he also enjoys learning about his guests and where they come from in the world. His most unusual sighting was that of a porcupine drinking.

“It’s not often that you see this, so I was very happy to have witnessed it.”
